Board Meeting Minutes 1/9/23
Board Meeting Minutes January 9, 2023
Called to order at 2:37pm by President, Joye Melby
Additional members present: Carole Hubiak, Vice President, Mike Gebhardt, Treasurer, Marylee Marks, Secretary, Jorge Pereira, Communication Director, Shan Koenig, Art Walk Co-coordinator.
Discussion:
The league owns several basic art instruction DVDs with a variety of subject matter. Jorge and Mike are considering these as a summer program. Membership interest and available classroom time will be considered prior to going forward. If these are to be offered, Gregg Snyder will be informed.
The Spring Art Walk is scheduled for the weekend of March 11th & 12th. Jorge and Shan are working on securing the Mita studio and Breezeway area for the event. This will greatly increase the number of artists in one locale and decrease visitor travel through residential areas. New guidelines for the March Art Walk will be presented to the membership at the next general meeting 1/16/23.
Carole reiterated the frustration in contacting instructors, coordinating their schedules with classroom availability, then advertising classes, only to have to cancel the class due to disinterest. Going forward, she will schedule an outside instructor only after a financial commitment from a minimum number of interested students.
It was decided to continue classes with instructors Joye Melby and Suzi Colb, along with “pop-up” demos for the rest of the 2023 season. No outside instructors will be contacted at this time.
Mike suggested connecting with other organizations such as Ground Floor Artists and WHAM to expand the Artisans League footprint and increase membership options.
Joye and Mike proposed a monthly get-together to interest members in a short social activity as a way of staying in touch. A scheduled Happy Hour was suggested along with “pop-up” discussions on art history, art critique, etc.
Shan stated she has a large cache of art supplies donated by another Trilogy resident. As these are items she does not use, she proposes a free raffle of various supplies to be offered at each membership meeting. Members must be present to win.
Jorge will change the League website to offer new people the option of registering either ‘friend to member’ or simply ‘member’ during their first contact. The League members will receive a “pay your dues now” notification soon. The website offers an active payment button to assist the renewal process.
Mike reported the League has $4602.75 in available funds.
Adjournment at 3:46pm
Respectfully submitted,
Marylee Marks,
Secretary
