Artist Profile: Betty Scharfman

Biographical Info

Betty Scharfman has been a fused glass artist for 14 years, creating studio art and custom art for the home and office. She opened her studio at Trilogy at Vistancia in 2015.  Scharfman is a member and juried artist of the Sonoran Arts League and a member of the Trilogy Artisans League. Her primary focus is art glass design and creation.  Her work includes wall art, sculptures, table art and functional art.  Her clientele spans the United States, Canada and South Africa.

Betty enjoys graphic designs, as well as, more painterly approaches with fused glass. She has studied with world renounced artists like Tim Carey, Narcissus Quagliata, Amanda Simmons and Sarinda Jones to achieve affects that layer glass and color.  These approaches utilize various elements – sheet glass, powders, frits and enamels to achieve outcomes. Her interest in travel has also influenced her work, capturing the history and depth of Verona, Italy, the beauty of the Amalfi Coast or the magic of New Orleans at Marti Gras.

Betty had a robust career as a senior executive, educator and consultant before becoming an artist.  She worked in key businesses across the Valley, where she has been a resident since 1976 – Valley National Bank, Bank One, WorldatWork, Arizona State University, and as President of her consulting practice, The Management Impact Group. In her work, she touched people across the Valley, the nation and the globe.

Passionate about art all her life, first as a collector and then as an artist, Betty found that fused glass provided her with a way to work with color, texture, light and layout.  Today, Betty creates studio pieces and custom work to “live her passion” and maximize her creativity.
